Jencarlos Canela está cansado de las novelas
Aunque fueron su trampolín a la fama, el joven actor Jencarlos Canela ya está cansado de las telenovelas.
El protagonista del nuevo culebrón de Telemundo, Mi corazón insiste en Lola Volcán, no está dispuesto a trabajar en ese género artístico por mucho más tiempo.
“Honestamente, la novela no solamente va a un ritmo que no nací para hacer ese tipo de cosas, aunque lo más que disfruto de la novela es la gente que conozco dentro de ella y el apoyo del público, pero el lado creativo y llevarlo a cabo es lo que no me gusta mucho”, manifestó el estelar de la exitosa producción Más sabe el diablo.
Y no es que a sus 23 años esté renunciando a la actuación, pero tampoco se proyecta toda su vida grabando durante 15 horas días.
“Definitivamente, no me veo haciendo novelas por mucho tiempo; me encanta la actuación y quiero mantenerme haciéndolo, pero en cine o en teatro”, agregó el artista en entrevista telefónica.
Su segunda producción discográfica, Un nuevo día, es lo más cercano a una reunión de colegas amigos que a su vez gozan de su admiración. En el repertorio, escuchará al intérprete compartir micrófono con artistas tan diversos como Pitbull y Gilberto Santa Rosa, El Cata y José Feliciano, y la banda Los Recoditos.
“El propósito de esta variedad fue algo que sentí hacer. Siento que en este disco estoy siendo yo y no solamente estoy enseñando el lado mío romántico y apasionado, sino el hecho de que pude cantar con el maestro José Feliciano y el maestro Gilberto Santa Rosa para mí fue otro sueño hecho realidad”, expresó sobre el repertorio que presentó la pasada semana en la ciudad de Miami.
Entre las canciones mencionó Llévame al cielo como una de sus favoritas, por su liviano contenido. “Es una fusión de reggae y habla del amor que te eleva”, detalló el vocalista, que asegura vivir en el cielo, aunque con los pies en la tierra.
“El amor es el vehículo perfecto para que yo viaje hasta el cielo y más allá” , dijo con una soltura que perdió poco después.
La picardía de Jencarlos alcanza su límite con el tema de los romances.
“ En estos momentos estoy en una etapa que no quisiera hablar mucho de mi vida personal hasta que esté establecida y definida”, advirtió el cantante. Seguidamente, anotó: “la felicidad y el amor no faltan en mi vida”.
Quiera hablar o no, el nombre de la actriz Gaby Espino lo sigue rondando. “Nunca he negado que Gaby es una persona muy especial para mí”, afirmó sin más.
Su corazón insiste
Tras protagonizar la producción Más sabe el diablo, Jencarlos Canela regresó a la pantalla de Telemundo en Estados Unidos con el melodrama Mi corazón insiste en Lola Volcán.
Al lado de la actriz Carmen Villalobos (Sin senos no hay paraíso), caracteriza a Andrés Santacruz, “un hombre impulsivo, que pierde la cabeza por amor, en este caso ‘Lola Volcán’”.
De la historia, comentó, le atrajo la fuerte relación que se desata entre los personajes estelares.
“Definitivamente, vi lo agresiva y lo intensa que era la historia de amor y la base de cada novela exitosa, es una trama de amor muy fuerte”, resaltó el histrión.
La grabación de uno de los capítulos de esta telenovela lo colocó nuevamente al lado del “Caballero de la Salsa”, Gilberto Santa Rosa.
El cantante le servirá de desahogo a su caracterización en una noche de copas.
Jencarlos habla con naturalidad de las fuertes escenas de la telenovela, a tal punto que anticipa que, a partir del capítulo 20, subirá aún más el tono.

Jencarlos Canela is Single, Bilingual, and Ready to Mingle!
Cuban American television star and musician Jencarlos Canela may be the biggest double threat to hit the small screen since Ricky Martin (his first album Buscame topped the Latin charts and he’s currently starring in his fourth telenovela) but he hasn’t yet crossed the line into becoming a mainstream superstar. However, with his album Un Nuevo Dia—boasting collaborations with Pitbull, Jose Feliciano and Gilberto Santa Rosa—and his first-ever English language track, his days walking around anonymously in the mall may be numbered. We interrupted Jencarlos during his lunch break from shooting the Telemundo novela Mi Corazon Insiste to ask him a few personal questions about his album, family and—most importantly—his love life (don’t let the rumors fool you, he’s single!).
Tell us something about your new album…
We worked so hard on this album. Sometimes we were working in the studio til three in the morning. I got to do some amazing collaborations with great friends of mine and artists that I admire, like El Cata and Pitbull, who’s like my brother. But the best thing about this album is we have an English track, and I feel like I’m finally being honest with myself, by singing in both English and Spanish.
What does that mean— you’re finally being honest with yourself?
My first language is both English and Spanish. My mom was raised in Los Angeles so with her we spoke English, but my father was born in Cuba, so with him we spoke Spanish. But my career did start in the Spanish language industry, and that’s probably because my father is my manager. He pushed my career in the direction he knew best. But I think we’re going to definitely start moving in that direction [of recording more English language music], without abandoning the fans that brought me here.
Your dad is your manager?
Yeah, I have a dad-ager. My dad is really good at the business end of things. But it’s really a family affair. My mother handles all my social media stuff—Facebook, Twitter, e-mails, that kind of thing. Sometimes it seems like whenever I ask where she is, someone is telling me, “Oh, she went to dinner with the president of your fan club.” She’s always making me read things that people write.
Is it difficult having your parents involved in your career?
No one is going to look out for your needs like a parent will.
How did your career get started?
My dad wrote songs as a hobby, so I grew up singing in the shower. When I was five or six, I asked to sing at a big family party, and ever since I got up there in front of everyone in my suit—it had a blue collar, like in Scarface—I had the bug.
We hear you’ve started doing some charity work recently. Tell us about that.
I just started working with the International Rescue Committee. It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. The work they do is incredible, getting kids out of poverty. I’m going with them on these trips to refugee camps, in Cambodia and places like that.
How do you find time to do that, given your many day jobs?
My grandpa always told me before he passed away, ‘the day you think success is a great song or a great album or a great movie, you’ll soon realize you don’t know success at all.’ That really stuck with me.
Do you have a girlfriend?
I don’t have a girlfriend right now. I’m very happy right now. I’m in a very happy place. There’s always space in my life for love, but in terms of a formal relationship…no, I don’t have a stable relationship in my life right now.
Describe your ideal woman.
I love a woman who's good with details, like she’ll leave you a note that says “I love you,” that kind of thing. I like a woman who can admit that she's wrong. But of course, it all comes down to physical attraction. I'm very sexual, so I need to be attracted sexually. When I come home I want to have that look in my eye and make love in the shower, the kitchen, the bedroom, wherever.
Do you have a celebrity crush?
Jennifer Aniston. She has a beautiful personality. She's the girl who you want to have kids with.
Where do you get your looks?
I look like both my mother and my father. I think I got my mother’s light eyes and my father’s dark hair and eyebrows.

Jencarlos Canela estrena su nuevo álbum, 'Un nuevo día'
El cantante Jencarlos Canela sacó hoy al mercado su segundo álbum, Un nuevo día, que está disponible en las tiendas y digitalmente a través de iTunes.
En un Un Nuevo Día el artista cubanoamericano interpreta desde temas bailables a baladas románticas y cuenta con la colaboración de los reconocidos Pitbull, José Feliciano, Gilberto Santa Rosa, El Cata y Banda Los Recoditos, se informó en un comunicado de prensa.
El primer álbum de Canela, de 23 años, Búscame (2009), obtuvo un Premio Lo Nuestro en 2011 en la categoría "Artista de Pop Revelación", así como una nominación a los Latin Billboard por "Artista Revelación del Año".
El también actor inició su carrera artística a los 12 años, y el año pasado fue el protagonista de Más sabe el diablo, una de las telenovelas de mayor audiencia en toda la historia de Telemundo.
Actualmente tiene el papel principal de la nueva telenovela de la misma cadena hispana, Mi corazón insiste y también interpreta el tema musical de la producción del mismo nombre, el cual incluye en el nuevo álbum.
Continuando con la promoción de Un Nuevo Día, Jencarlos Canela realizará el día de mañana su primera firma de autógrafos en la ciudad de Miami en la tienda Wal-Mart de Hialeah Gardens, para continuar en Puerto Rico los días 24, 25 y 26 de Junio en las ciudades de Mayaguez, Ponce, San Juan y Bayamón.
